Textile Cosmogonies
Las tecnologías textiles se remontan a la aparición de la primera astilla de hueso utilizada para unir dos pedazos de piel, es decir, la primera aguja. El huso par hilar, la aguja para coser y el telar para tejer son artefactos que corresponden a las primeras tecnologías que implementaron los humanos. Existe una particularidad en las comunidades ancestrales del territorio latinoamericano y la manera en la que estas usaron las tecnologías textiles para ilustrar y simbolizar sus creencias, sus ritos y su cosmogonía. Desde símbolos gráficos tejidos, hasta metáforas de los haceres textiles, diferentes comunidades fueron integrando los rituales textiles en su manera de explicar el mundo y sus decisiones sobre cómo habitarlo.
Textile technologies date back to the appearance of the first bone splinter used to join two pieces of skin, that is, the first needle. The spindle for spinning, the needle for sewing, and the loom for weaving are artifacts that correspond to the first technologies implemented by humans. There is a particularity in the ancestral communities of the Latin American territory and how they used textile technologies to illustrate and symbolize their beliefs, rites, and cosmogony. From woven graphic symbols to metaphors of textile making, different communities were integrating textile rituals in their way of explaining the world and their decisions about how to inhabit it
El proyecto Símbolos Perpetuos se basa en el paralelismo entre obras artísticas textiles de pueblos indigenas latinoamericanos junto con su implementación y conservación en las diferentes obras arte de artistas contemporáneos.
The Perpetual Symbols project is based on the parallelism between textile artistic works of Latin American indigenous peoples along with their implementation and conservation in the different works of art by contemporary artists.
Dentro de este paralelo, se analizaron los conceptos de resignificación, tradición, usabilidad, espiritualidad y herencia de estas prácticas en las comunidades indígenas de la región de Latinoamérica y como los artistas contemporáneos ayudaban a su preservación en la actualidad.
Within this parallel, the concepts of resignification, tradition, usability, spirituality, and inheritance of these practices in the indigenous communities of the Colombian region were analyzed as how contemporary artists helped to preserve them today.

En nuestra curaduría, revisamos el trabajo de artistas como Carmen Vicente de Ecuador, Cecilia Vicuña de Chile y Máximo Laura de Perú. Por último se quiso revisar el trabajo de diferentes artistas latinoamericanos que toman inspiración de pueblos ancestrales y saberes textiles de los pueblos originarios. Los trabajos de artistas como Olga de Amaral, Ernesto Nieto y Ernesto Aroztegui buscan reunir y rescatar conocimientos y simbologías ancestrales textiles mediante profundas investigaciones, proyectos relacionados a la conservación del medio ambiente y creaciones artísticas.
In our curatorship, we review the work of artists such as Carmen Vicente from Ecuador, Cecilia Vicuña from Chile, and Máximo Laura from Peru. Finally, we wanted to review the work of different Latin American artists who take inspiration from ancestral peoples and the textile knowledge of the original peoples. The works of artists such as Olga de Amaral, Ernesto Nieto, and Ernesto Aroztegui seek to gather and rescue ancestral textile knowledge and symbols through in-depth research, projects related to environmental conservation, and artistic creations.
De todos estos trabajos que revisamos se realize una seleccion para generar una exposicion virtual, que nos llevara desde la tradicion hasta la actualidad e hiciera replantear al visitante el concepto de tecnologia ancestral y herencia.
Of all these works that we reviewed, a selection was made to generate a virtual exhibition, which will take us from tradition to the present and make the visitor rethink the concept of ancestral technology and heritage.

Se realizó una instalación física sobre la cosmogonía misak que se encontraba en el recorrido virtual. La instalación por medio de textiles impresos y simbología nos lleva por el camino que va y viene donde el tiempo se teje.
We made a physical installation of the misak cosmogonym that was in the virtual tour. he installation through printed textiles and symbology takes us along the path that comes and goes, and the time that is woven.
